NEWINGTON SKI CLUB MINUTES

November 2, 2017
Indian Hill Country Club

Meeting was called to order by President Jon Putnam at 7:45pm.

Secretary’s Report: Last meetings minutes were accepted.

Membership: Marilyn Pearson reported we have collected $4322.27 to date. The Membership sign ups have been active this past week. Total members to date are at 223. This includes 24 individual, 36 retirees, 43 Family,7 College, and 12 Lifetime. Please go to the website to sign up through the link to ZAP. Please sign up on-line to make things easier. You can check off a place for privacy to opt out of the PDF roster.

Open House Meeting: November 30, 2017 at 7pm – will be here at Indian Hill Country Club same room as our meetings . There will be a new format. The Open House Meeting committee is working on the event details. NSC will purchase some appetizers that night. There cannot be any food brought in by members. There will be food to purchase and the bar will be open. Joel Witkiewicz sent out letters to ski areas for raffle prizes. The raffle will be scaled down, just a few prizes. Suburban Sports and Ski Sundown is interested in attending. There was again discussion about whether to have a regular meeting on November 16. It was decided to have a “mini meeting: that night, there will not be a full agenda that night.

Snow Ball: November 18, 2017, Hartford/Windsor Marriott. See Ambassador Mike Brown for tickets. $20 in advance, $25 at the door. We are sharing the Hospitality Suite room with CAST Ski club.

On Snow: March 2-4th 2018 at Okemo. Ron Kapraszewski is still looking into lodging .Some of the places are already booked so Ron is having a hard time. Lorraine and Ron are checking into options. The Ski Club house that he was checking into is not available that weekend. Our club is responsible for running the Saturday races this year and will need volunteers to help.

Warren Miller Film: November 3, 2017. Maybe tailgate before the show.

Pete Noyes Memorial Hike: November 11, 2017. 10am Hike and tailgate.

Manchester Road Race: November 23, 2017 Rusty Cushman has the race info , meet afterwards to tailgate/socialize. Meet at the Army Navy center by the finish line. Race starts at 10am..

Christmas Party: December 9,2017. 6:30pm drinks, 7:00 dinner. Indian Hill Country Club. Upstairs in the banquet room. Cost will be $30-$35. Choice of Beef, Chicken or Fish. Ideas welcome. Bring your holiday decorations. There will be a white elephant Grab bag Swap. The party will be posted on the website.

Monday Night Racing: December 18th, Registration Party. Pre-register for racing that night. Free Pizza at Mount Southington.1st Monday Night race is scheduled for January 8,2018. There will be no makeup races. Please come out to race as the club gets points for participation.

Soup, Stew and Chili Night: February 15,2018 at Indian Hill CC. We can bring in food, but cannot purchase food off the menu that night due to regulations. Cash Bar for drinks.

Senior Games: February 27,2018 at Sundown. Fun Day. See Carol Sweeney for more information.

Club Day: At Okemo. John Hunter reported we cannot do the end of January as the course is booked. He will see if we can book Sunday January 7th.Will plan to get together later in the afternoon for drinks and food.

Big Sky Trip: March 6-13, 2018.See John Hunter. lodging/ flights being held will be released by Thanksgiving..As of today 30 are signed up and 3 are still on the wait list, need 3 more to fill a Condo.

New Business:

Mt Snow has a special to purchase on-line December 12, 2017 $12 lift ticket. Must be pre-purchased.

Glenn Johnson reported that Mt. Southington is looking for ski instructors. Its part-time and flexible, has benefits including Monday Night Racing is about $16.00.See their website or Glenn for more information. They will train you and it’s a fun job.

John Paturel reported that Skiers Unlimited could use volunteers Fridays 1-3 at Mt Southington starting in January. See John or Skiers Unlimited Website. Our club supports them with our fundraiser Soup, Stew and Chili night.

New Hampshire had damaging flooding this past week.

Jon Putnam and Marilyn Pearson played golf at Indian Hill Country Club. It’s a great course and the NSC Golf Tournament can be played there at the same cost as Timberlin. Will need to decide where to play it, both are available.

The NSC Constitution has been reviewed and brought up to date by the Board of Directors. A red-line version will be posted on the website for review. The new version will be brought to a meeting to vote on to adopt.

 

50/50 raffle- Jim Oleksiw won $14.50.
