NEWINGTON SKI CLUB MINUTES
February 1, 2018

Indian Hill Country Club

16 were in attendance during the meeting.

Meeting was called to order by President, Jon Putnam at 7:40pm. A pipe burst downstairs in the usual meeting room, so we are meeting upstairs tonight. The bar area downstairs will be completely redone.

Secretary’s Report: Last meetings minutes were accepted.

Membership: Jon Putnam reported we have 412 members to date, we have more new members than in the past, but the overall membership is less this year.

Christmas/Holiday Party: was a success, it worked out great at Indian Hill and we had a better turnout by having the party midweek in January. We may try to make that the new schedule, since weekends in December people are either skiing or overwhelmed with holiday events, etc.

Monday Night Racing: We have 4 more races, there is a total of 8 races scheduled this season. We were beat by 100 points by Mountain Laurel Ski Club last week. We are in firm 2nd place. Our club needs female racers. You do not need to be a racer to race, just ski the gates, since we get points for the number of skiers that participate. All competing times are by age groups.

Kids Day: Great turnout of 74 Participants; 16 clubs were represented.

Soup, Stew and Chili Night: February 15, 2018, 6:30pm at Indian Hill CC to benefit Skiers Unlimited. See flyer on the website as to what is needed and please sign up as soon as possible – submit the form or email to Marilyn Pearson to be sure we have all that is needed. Plates, cups, flatware, etc. is covered. Soups and salads are needed. Dennis Tyburski will give a presentation about Skiers Unlimited.

Senior Games: February 27, 2018 at Sundown. Fun Day. See Carol Sweeney for more information.

On Snow: March 2-4th 2018 at Okemo. Ron Kapraszewski reported he met with Okemo and they are all set for the races. Waivers must be signed whether you are racing or not ahead of time. They will be posted on-line when ready; Okemo is working on them. Let Ron know if you are going if you have not done so. Saturday CSC dinner is $25; CSC needs the money and head count by 2/13/18. Give your check to Joe Machowski or George Lape. There will be a race clinic after the Super G on Friday. NSC usually gets together for dinner Friday night, location TBD.

Big Sky Trip: March 6-13, 2018. See John Hunter. 4 people cancelled. Big Sky has lots of snow.

Spring Banquet: Saturday May 5th at Indian Hill Country Club. We need a Coordinator- See Jon Putnam if you can help out.

Officers for Next Year: We will need a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. See Jon Putnam if you would like to serve. Jon will help the new Vice President with membership. He has a new rolling mobile membership unit to keep things organized and easy to find. We have had one member come forward to volunteer, Carol will stay one more year as Treasurer if need be.

NSC Constitution: The changes that have been proposed and posted for the Constitution were voted on and approved by the board tonight.

Bulk Tickets: See Jill Bennett-she has 1 Stratton ticket adult and 1 Sunapee ticket-Jr/Super Senior

Meetings: Next meeting is Soup, Stew and Chili Night – 2/15/18. There will be no meeting on March 1st due to On Snow. One meeting in March: 3/15/18. April meeting dates are April 5th and April 19th (Bingo).

Tuckerman’s trip: April 7th weekend. Ski one or two days at Sunday River, Loon or Wildcat and hike/ski Tuckerman’s on the best weather day. Jon is willing to help people prepare and pack for Tuck’s, but everyone hikes/ski’s at their own pace on that day.  It can be a very pleasant hike to the floor of the ravine just to watch action and the Sherburne Trail is not a difficult descent from HoJo’s (Ranger station). Skiing the ravine itself is a challenge for experts only. Contact Jon Putnam if you have any questions.

New Business:

Warren Miller and Joseph Brooks Dodge Jr. recently passed away.

Long time member Lily Hill passed away. Memorial Service is Saturday Feb 17th in Cromwell; details will be in the paper. She had donated $for a young racer to receive race training. If anyone knows a young racer or racers in our club that could benefit from this, please let Jon Putnam know.

Raffle: New member Helen Krzyczynski won $9.00, which she donated, back to the club.

Ray Bennettson won tickets to Bromley and Smugglers.

Next meeting: February 15 at 6:30pm – Soup, Stew Chili night at Indian Hill.
