NSC Meeting Minutes 11-03-16

NEWINGTON SKI CLUB MINUTES

November 3, 2016

Meeting was called to order by President Jon Putnam at 7:40. Reminder to sign in at the bar if you are ordering a drink.

Secretary’s Report: Minutes from previous meeting accepted. All meeting minutes are on the NSC web site.

Treasurer’s Report: Carol reported $6904.25 in the checking account . Quickbook balance $5499

Expenses: Snowball, Website

Income after fees to date: $4774. Budgeted total for membership – $10,000. Will make adjustments in spending as needed. Last few years membership has been trending down.

Membership: 122 Registrations to date, 250 members. 44% Family memberships, 27% retirees,10% Single,8% College,4% Lifetime. One new member was in attendance at the meeting.

Bulk Tickets: Coordinators are waiting for the tickets to come in. Need to get bulk tickets from the CSC at the next meeting to be ready for the Open House. Some tickets were purchased (not sure how many) for new members by purchasing tickets from those that were not reordered from last year. Fewer Bulk tickets were ordered this year, due to many Awareness days as well as lack of snow last year.

Open House:   November 18, 7 pm“Mitten Madness.” Rusty sent solicitation letters for raffle prizes. Recieved some donations from Bob’s Ski Chalet, Mt Snow tickets, Sugarloaf tickets. Neal will be our DJ for the night. Rusty is looking for help decorating early- before the Open House. Bob Lanosa will do the hot dogs again this year, will put out a donation can/box to help with the food cost.

Snow Ball: November 12 at the Hartford Marriott in Windsor-Band- “Red Line”. See Jeff Lepage for tickets. There will be a photo booth (fee) this year as well as limited appetizers. We are sharing the Hospitality Suite with CAST and Manchester Ski Club. Bring food and specialty drink (optional). Joe Machowski has organized volunteers to help with decorating. He will have an organizational meeting at Joanie Noyes’ house on November 10, at 6:30 pm, with pizza. Joe also needs help at the hotel the night of the Snow Ball, so get there early if you want to help decorate at the snowball.

On Snow: March 2-4 at Loon Mountain, NH. Lodging is available on a first come, first served basis, at the Kancamangus Lodge in NH. Various room types are available, but a limited number of rooms are being held. There is a once-a-day shuttle bus to and from the lodge. The other shuttle bus drops are farther away, but more than 1x a day. Call the Lodge at 800-346-4205 to make your reservations. There is also a link on the CSC site for other lodging.

Warren Miller: Nov.5th. A group is going to the 9:30 showing. Ski ticket specials included in the movie ticket.

Pete Noyes Memorial Hike: 10th Anniversary. Sat., Nov.19th. Meet at Hublein parking lot for hike and tailgating afterward. Joanie made a quilt and is selling raffle tickets $2 each for Pete Noyes Scholarship Fund.

Club Race: Glen checked with Magic Mt. under new ownership, but having issues with getting a commitment. Checking other options.

Senior Games: Ski Sundown February 14th.

Christmas Party: Friday December 9th. See Ted Rogala. $30, White Elephant Swap grabbag

Ski Trips: Ski 93 FAM Trips- Dec 9-11 Stowe, Sugarbush $159. January 6-8 Brettonwoods, Cannon, Loon $189. 4 from each club can participate. See Adela.

Bertucci’s Happy Hour: 26 members came out, though not great weather. Happy Hour prices on special menu, drinks. Tables and acoustics were discussed. Next Happy Hour December 29th at 6:30.

NEW BUSINESS: Ski Sundown Ski Swap is this weekend. John Paturel is selling skis and a road bike.

Marilyn Pearson is selling race skis.

50/50 Raffle: Adela Martinez won $12, meeting adjourned at 8:35 pm.
